EVENTS FOR FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2008 on SATURDAY MAY 3rd -UPDATED with SALES

Four Days and counting... Read the story to see the sales for Saturday. We have some fantastic guests at our Downtown Store this year so plan on battling the traffic. Here is the latest news of what Downtown Comics is doing next week.

Thursday May 1st (8pm - Midnight)

United Artists Theatre Galaxy 14 (96th st and I-65 in Fishers)

We will have a table set up for the midnight showing of IRON MAN. We will have posters, buttons, stickers, and comics to give away as well as TICKETS. CONTEST: Starting now the first 15 people to post a comment to this article will win a ticket for 2 to the midnight showing. You have to come to the theatre to get your ticket by 11pm (the movie starts at 11:59) or we will start giving them away to the patrons. This is an open showing not a screening, it may sell out, so the earlier the better. If you are planning to just come anyway, stop by our table (we may have more tickets to give away).

Friday May 2nd (9am-9:30am)

WXNT 1430am Abdul in the morning

Yours truly (Mike) will join Abdul during his goof off hour to discuss Free Comic Book Day, the Iron Man movie, and whatever else he can think of. This will be my second appearance on the radio and hopefully I won't embarrass myself (that's a good reason to tune in by the way). BONUS CONTEST - A $15 gift card from me to whoever posts the when, where and what for that was my first radio appearance.

SATURDAY May 3rd(11am - 8pm) (6pm at the Downtown store)

FREE Comics from our publisher friends all day while they last. BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY.

SUPER HEROES -- IRON MAN will be making a special appearance at our Downtown Location from 11am -1pm.

CHILDREN's MUSEUM -- If you haven't heard the children's museum is opening their brand new comic book exhibit today. Running for a year this promises to be one of the biggest national exhibits about comic books. We are proud to be a small part of this exhibit and I will be hanging out there all day talking to kids and handing out comics.

Whew, busy days. Plan accordingly and we hope to see everyone at one or more of our special events next week. Spread the word.

I have a felling Ironman is going to out do ol' Indy! I'm sure Indiana Jones (which I am a BIG fan) will out gross Ironman but after the previews I think Ironman will prove to be one of the coolest flics of the summer!

Santa Cat is coming to town…

Full of Existential Dread Kitten Santa that is. Neil Cameron, who you might remember from his Alphabet A-Z artblog, is doing a special Santa-themed sketchblog with everyday before Christmas presenting a different version of Santa. One problem: he may have drawn every sort of Santa imaginable. You just have to love Santazilla. So, he is taking suggestions. [...]

Did you ever think you were Team Edward and not even know it?

Consider me busted. Originally conceived in a strip of HijiNKS Ensue web comic, and then almost immediately caused a craze for such a shirt and of course, gave in to the demand. So, Team EJO shirts can be bought here for about $20. Team Edward, represent.

Note to Tim Bradstreet AND Pantera fans

My lord, has it really been FIVE YEARS since the beyond senseless murder of metal guitar god Dimebag Darrell? The music community was rocked to its core this month in 2004 when a deranged “fan” shot and killed Pantera guitarist “Dimebag/Diamond” Darrell Abbott (along with 3 others) in a Columbus, Ohio, music club while [...]

Kurt Busiek, Man of 1,000 Characters

Well, maybe not a thousand, but 83 characters and 16 teams sure gets you a lot. Kurt Busiek has posted on his blog a comprehensive list of all the characters he has created or co-created, apparently as a new accounting process for Marvel. The craziest part of all this — this doesn’t include Astro City, or [...]
