EVENTS FOR FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2008 on SATURDAY MAY 3rd -UPDATED with SALES

Four Days and counting... Read the story to see the sales for Saturday. We have some fantastic guests at our Downtown Store this year so plan on battling the traffic. Here is the latest news of what Downtown Comics is doing next week.

Thursday May 1st (8pm - Midnight)

United Artists Theatre Galaxy 14 (96th st and I-65 in Fishers)

We will have a table set up for the midnight showing of IRON MAN. We will have posters, buttons, stickers, and comics to give away as well as TICKETS. CONTEST: Starting now the first 15 people to post a comment to this article will win a ticket for 2 to the midnight showing. You have to come to the theatre to get your ticket by 11pm (the movie starts at 11:59) or we will start giving them away to the patrons. This is an open showing not a screening, it may sell out, so the earlier the better. If you are planning to just come anyway, stop by our table (we may have more tickets to give away).

Friday May 2nd (9am-9:30am)

WXNT 1430am Abdul in the morning

Yours truly (Mike) will join Abdul during his goof off hour to discuss Free Comic Book Day, the Iron Man movie, and whatever else he can think of. This will be my second appearance on the radio and hopefully I won't embarrass myself (that's a good reason to tune in by the way). BONUS CONTEST - A $15 gift card from me to whoever posts the when, where and what for that was my first radio appearance.

SATURDAY May 3rd(11am - 8pm) (6pm at the Downtown store)

FREE Comics from our publisher friends all day while they last. BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY.

Whew, busy days. Plan accordingly and we hope to see everyone at one or more of our special events next week. Spread the word.

I have a felling Ironman is going to out do ol' Indy! I'm sure Indiana Jones (which I am a BIG fan) will out gross Ironman but after the previews I think Ironman will prove to be one of the coolest flics of the summer!

Comics Grinder: The Squirrel Machine

Hans Rickheit’s “The Squirrel Machine,” published by Fantagraphics Books, is a beautiful 179 page hard cover graphic novel. It is an appropriate book to start out this new column since it sets the tone for the type of offbeat work that attracts me and I hope will interest you. The story involves two brothers who [...]

Titan against a Titan! “Clash of the Titans” trailer hits the web.

I cannot express my joy for this trailer enough. I know it’s a few months away, but my mouth is already watering. Though, I wish they had used a more dramatic instrumental score rather than this heavy metal one, but beggars can’t be choosers and it still fits the film. Plus, you can’t beat percussion scorpions. I [...]

Kick-Ass trailer hits early

You ready for a first look at the film adaptation of Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass? I’ll bet you are! So check it out early: Kick-Ass Trailer Park | MySpace Video Good stuff all around, courtesy of Trailer Addict and Lionsgate, who put the trailer up for all to see once it was somehow leaked to the Internet.

Review: This Side of Jordan

This Side of Jordan Written by Monte Schulz Published by Fantagraphics Fantagraphics has been publishing comics and comics criticism for nearly thirty years now, yet it was just a few years ago that co-founder Gary Groth got to achieve one of his goals when the company worked with writer Alexander Theroux to publish the literary-minded novel (note the [...]

‘Twas the Night Before Wednesday…

Tomorrow is the day we’ve all been waiting for ever since Marvel announced that their Punisher series published through their Max imprint would be retitled PunisherMax, all one word. Will they really go through with it? Will it look less stupid running along the top of the actual cover of an actual comic book [...]
